Lagos State was created on May 27, 1967, as part of the state creation exercise that resulted in the creation of twelve states out of the former Western Region of Nigeria.
- Port Harcourt, Rivers State
Port Harcourt is the capital city of Rivers State and one of the busiest ports in Nigeria. It is also known for its high level of environmental pollution. The pollution is caused by oil spills, uncontrolled urbanization, and lack of proper waste disposal methods.
The Governor of Rivers State, SIR Siminialayi Fubara,, has launched several environmental programs to address these issues, but the city still remains one of the dirtiest cities in Nigeria.

- Aba, Abia State
Aba is one of the largest cities in Abia State and is known for its commercial activities.

The Governor of Abia State, Alex Chioma Otti, has launched several environmental programs to address these issues, but the city remains one of the dirtiest cities in Nigeria.

The city is known for its high level of environmental pollution caused by poor waste disposal practices, open defecation, and congested roads. The Governor of Kaduna State, Uba Sani has launched several environmental programs to improve the cleanliness of the city, but the city remains one of the dirtiest cities in Nigeria.

- Onitsha, Anambra State
Onitsha is one of the largest commercial cities in Eastern Nigeria. The city is known for its bustling markets and a high level of environmental pollution. The pollution is caused by uncontrolled urbanization, open defecation, and indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
The Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, has launched several environmental programs to improve the condition of the city, but Onitsha still remains one of the dirtiest cities in Nigeria.
Anambra State was created on August 27, 1991, from Enugu and old Anambra States.
