The wife of the Governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji has emphasized the importance of giving basic education the special attention it deserves.
She stated that basic education is the foundation upon which other levels of education rest and urged education secretaries in charge of basic schools to be adequately equipped to ensure the effective delivery of quality teaching and learning processes.
According to her, education is the driving force behind development and socio-economic growth in all sectors of the economy.
Speaking at a summit organized by the State Universal Basic Education Board to train education secretaries and head teachers in Ido-Ekiti, she urged them to establish an effective mechanism for regular feedback to SUBEB from Local Government Education Authorities through report writing and periodic meetings.
Dr. Oyebanji also suggested that education secretaries ensure that teachers possess sufficient ICT literacy skills, at least 80%, and advocated for improved funding of Local Government Education Authorities to enhance their functionalities.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of SUBEB, Prof. Femi Akinwumi, urged executive secretaries not to deviate from the purpose for which they were appointed and to be committed to effectively monitoring schools.
