JUPEB (Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board) is a Nigerian national examination body that conducts a standardized advanced level examination for candidates seeking direct admission into the second year of degree programmes in Nigerian universities.
JUPEB was established in 2013 by the Nigeria Inter-University Consultative Committee on Admission (NUICCA) to provide an alternative route to gain admission into Nigerian universities for candidates who could not secure admission through the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) or other direct entry options.
The JUPEB programme is a one-year intensive academic programme that prepares candidates for the JUPEB examination. The programme is run by various accredited JUPEB centres located in different universities across Nigeria.
The JUPEB examination is conducted in June every year and consists of three papers: General Studies, which is compulsory for all candidates, and two other subjects related to the candidate’s chosen field of study. The examination is marked by external examiners and results are released in August.
Successful candidates who meet the JUPEB minimum requirements can apply for direct admission into the second year of their chosen degree programmes in any Nigerian university that accepts JUPEB results. JUPEB certificate is recognized by many Nigerian universities as an equivalent to the Cambridge Advanced Level Examination, the Higher School Certificate Examination (HSC) and the Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB) Examination.
