When, Where, and How ‘Igede Agba’ the New Yam Festival is Celebrated In Nigeria

One of the most well-known celebrations among the Igede people of Benue State is Igede Agba (New Yam Festival), which aims to highlight their culture, traditions, and customs. It exemplifies the people’s values and exhibits their sociocultural practices.

According to the people’s historical origins and under their direction, the Igede Agba is honored. Every September, people around the world celebrate it.

They also celebrate their national day during this time. The Igede ceremony honors their joy at getting to live where they do. Celebrations include the Orgirinya, Obemu, Aita, Alatakpa, Onyantu, and Woro.

Since migrating and settling in the region of Benue in the 17th century, the Igede people have significantly contributed to the preservation of their culture and customs.

Yam festival is also celebrated in Enugu State and it is called ‘Solid FM Yam Festival/Cultural’
